Choosing the right BioBox model.
Which BioBox model is suitable for our use?
The choice of model is affected by the property's use and the toilet system.
BioBox models are designed for the needs of a family (approx. 5 people)
- smaller models for cottages (carrying water) - larger models for holiday homes
(with additional amenities). When utilization degree is greater, additional wells
can be connected to them. The system can be self-maintaining (used with
environmental toilet systems) or maintenance can be based on sludge emptying
(toilet + closed tank).
See BioBox SELECT page.
How to proceed with my wastewater treatment project?
Do I need an official permit? Can I install it by myself?
Can I get design / construction help through RAITA?
We offer free mapping. In connection with mapping, you will receive written
information about the system suitable to your property and it’s cleaning
requirements. Authorization is almost always required. The project can be
implemented in whole or in part itself. You can get through us in addition to
mapping, assistance with design, installation of equipment, and construction
of a wastewater system.
See RaitaPro pages.
BioBox system maintenance.
What do I need to do?
The BioBox is checked regularly (monthly) and its filters are cleaned
approximately once a year (according to instructions).
The filter is scraped, brushed or washed, the waste is composted.
Filters are replaced after 10-15 years of use.
See instructions on our technical pages.
Household detergents?
Should so-called environmentally friendly basic substances be used?
The cleaning performance of BioBoxes has been tested with commonly used
“normal detergents” as well as household cleaners.
Substances tested to be environmentally friendly can also be used.
The most important thing is to follow the dosing instructions for the
substance - overdose may cause impaired biological purification.
See instructions on our technical pages.
How effectively does BioBox clean?
Will it be approved for my property?
The cleaning efficiency of the BioBox exceeds the regulatory requirements in
the groundwater and near-water (see, lake, river) areas.
Official follow-ups of the cleaning result are very good.
See BioBox cleaning results page.
Approval is obtained through the authority's authorization procedure.
Winter use - measures for the cold season.
Thermal insulation, heating? Measures after the summer season
(for a summer cottage)?
If the property is used in winter, it will be considered during installation by
insulating the system or / and equipping it with a heating element. There are
different inluationpackages for BioBox modells as well as a heating element.
Used only in the summer, it may not be insulated. We recommend cleaning the
filters in the autumn and storing them during the winter in a place where there
is no freezing water (e.g. inside a BioBox that has been emptied of water).
See instructions on our technical pages.
To increase the capacity of BioBox.
Can BioBoxen's capacity be expanded?
All models have capacity for one family (5 people). Additional capacity is
obtained by increasing the well volume (fat / precipitation well)
or additional filtration at the discharge (biomodules). The amount of water
per hour / day increases / service interval (fat sludge)
prolongs. Extensions are also considered in the mapping phase.
See BioBox SELECT page.
Price, operating costs, equipment life.
Why is the purchase of BioBox justified compared to other sewage
systems?
When estimating costs, take into account the purchase price, installation cost,
operating costs and unit life. BioBox is cheap and compact
- it's cheap to buy and easy to install. BioBox does not have high running costs
- filters cleaned once a year and renewed after 10-15
years of use. Its lifespan is very long - 50-100 years.
Water treatment system’s (sea lake, poor quality well water for domestic
use) rinsing water.
Can rinsing water be lead to BioBox?
No. The water used for treatment should not be discharged through the
treatment of gray water, as it interferes with biological treatment (water low pH,
low alkalinity, chlorine as a cleaning agent). It pays to lead past the system.
Rinsing water does not cause pollution in the environment.
Discharge of urine or liquid from the toilet with the BioBox system.
Can urine or excess water from Biotoalett be led into the BioBox?
BioBox is developed to purify "gray water". Urine contains most of the household
load and it can not led directly to "gray wastewater".
It can be collected and used as a fertilizer or it can be treated and managed after
the extra treatment to a wastewater system of the correct dimensioning
(also the BioBox system). Book an appointment for remote mapping
see RaitaPro pages. - we help with the dimensioning.
See instructions on our technical pages.
Where BioBox is installed? Always into the ground or is it possible over the
ground also (f.ex in the gap between floor and ground)?
Can it be installed inside (f.ex in the basement)? How to prevent freezing
during the winter?
BioBox can be installed in the ground (only the lid is visible) or over the ground
or f.ex in the basement - it will be insulated during the installation then placed
in a cold place /space/ room. The insulation is made on the spot with normal
insulation sheets (50 mm) or our readymade insulationpackages may also be
used. If installed over the ground usually heatingelement is needed also.
See instructions on our technical pages.

Is BioBox suitable for wastewater treatment in a groundwater area?
BioBox is well suited for groundwater areas. The location in the groundwater
area does not provide additional requirements regarding the cleaning effect.
BioBox’s cleaning power is high enough.
The advantage in the groundwater area is the small height of the BioBox.
Purified water can be easily led to an open ditch or infiltrate into the ground
near the ground level, i in which case the distance to the groundwater surface is
as long as possible. We recommends using our infiltration well (KK600 or
KK400) so that the infiltration can be serviced and sampling is possible.
In addition a ventilation pipe for the incoming air is included in the well. Under
the well comes a gravel / macadam layer for a sufficiently large surface, from
which absorption of water occurs in the soil.

the dimensioning.
